Acrobat (Creative Cloud) will not expand tags in tag tree for PDF files converted from docx

My Creative Cloud version of Acrobat will not allow me to expand tags from PDF files converted from Word. It seems to work fine when I convert a PDF file from PowerPoint. I also sent the PDF files converted from Word to another computer with Acrobat DC and was able to remediate the PDF file converted from Word.

When using the Creative Cloud version of Acrobat, I tried every variation of the settings available in Word's Acrobat PDFMaker focusing on "Conversion settings" and the checkable "Enable Accessibility and Reflow with tagged Adobe PDF" and "Enable advanced tagging" options. I also tried saving the Word file to its previous version [Word 97-2003 Document (.doc)]. In each of the saved Word files I then convert it to a PDF and try to remediate in Acrobat. In each PDF version, Acrobat will not allow me to expand the tag to view the object and make edits to the tag.

@Shalm_100 Since you confirmed that the same file works perfectly on a different computer running Acrobat DC, the problem is most certainly related to a small, isolated glitch within the Creative Cloud version of Acrobat on your specific machine, rather than the Word file itself. If your Acrobat version is running the "New Acrobat" look, try switching back to the older, classic view. This is a common solution for mysterious bugs and stability issues. View - Disable new Acrobat.

Since you have a Creative Cloud subscription, some users have found success by running the automatic tagging process again, but this time using the cloud service. This process forces the document to be re-analyzed by Adobe's powerful online server, which might bypass the local desktop bug. You would look for the option to "Automatically Tag PDF" or "Cloud-based auto-tagging" within the Accessibility or Tags tools.

Hello!

Acrobat (Creative Cloud version) has trouble expanding tags in PDFs converted from Word, even with accessibility settings enabled, while PowerPoint conversions work fine. The same Word-based PDFs open correctly in Acrobat DC on other machines, suggesting a compatibility issue. Try using Acrobat DC, converting via “Save as Adobe PDF,” or updating both Acrobat and Word to resolve the tag tree problem.
