Hi, I am working on a project to make existing scanned PDFs into smaller file size PDFs for archiving. When I have read in forums, I found that using the step "Optimized PDF" is the best method to apply first, then if the file size is still too large then to use "Save as Other", and then "Reduced Size PDF"
Under Reduced Size PDF, where it asks "Make Compatible with: Retain Existing", what is the purpose of changing the version? I think the older versions will make the PDFs smaller in size, but I suspect it's with a loss of PDF visual detail. Should I choose to make the PDF compatible with older versions of Acrobat? If I do make it compatible with older versions, say Acrobat 10 for example, will the file still open in Acrobat DC 2017? I guess I don't understand the need for the Acrobat Version Compatibility step in the file size reduction process. What does "later" mean in this context...older versions of Acrobat or the newest (latest) version?
