Acrobat DC Alt + Arrow Keys Not Working

Before I reset the preferences and/or clear the cache, I thought I'd check here to see if anyone has a any clue.

My favorite keystrokes in Acrobat are the Alt + Arrow Keys, which I think are semi-standard Windows keys. Alt + Left Arrow cycles backward in the views (like a back button would), Alt + Right Arrow cycles forward through the views. By "views" I mean if I goto to page 27 with the got to page command I should be able to hit Alt + Left Arrow to go back to where I just came from.

The only thing I really find in preferences for keyboard is the General > Use single-key accelerators... option, which I always have on. I've also compared the preferences with another compter on which this is working fine, but found nothing of note.

Does anyone know why the Alt + Arrow keys might not be working?

Thanks!

Have you checked, if this commands work in other apps like the webrowser? The problem may be not related to Acrobat but the operating system.

Thanks for the suggestions but it works in both Chrome and Edge.

Resetting the preferences following this fixed it, the keystrokes are working again.

Know that it wasn't until I deleted the registry key mentioned in the second step that it actually reset the preferences and recreated the Preferences folder.

In case this happens again, any insight anyone might have as to why they stopped working would still be welcome.

Thanks

Well, this saga continues. Cleared the preferences and things worked, also my recent files list was also then empty. All fine.

Went back in to change some of the preferences, like turning off protected mode so the PitStop plug-in would load (among a few other things), and closed and re-opened Acrobat, AND, my recent files list had filled back up with what used to be there and the keystrokes no longer worked! DOH!

I don't know if it has something to do with having logged on to my other computer that shares this CC account? I wouldn't think so as the recent file lists are NOT the same.

I'm out of time for this right now but, again, if anyone has any clue I'm all ears.

Not sure if this sheds any light on things but it's isn't the keystrokes that are disabled, it's the actual functions "Previous view" and "Next view" because when I add those buttons to the button bar, they are disabled.

This seemed like a bad idea but I tried it out of desperation anyway: I copied all the settings and preferences from a another computer I frequently work on to the one I'm having trouble with. Including exporing the registry entry mentioned here (same as above) from the other computer and importing it into the problematic one, and things were working, for a while.

BUT, when I logged out of that problematic computer and logged back in, the damn Previous and Next view buttons were, again, diabled in Acrobat.

Why is this happeneing!?!?!?

Hi there,

Hope you are doing well.

As you have tried most of the troubleshooting steps with no luck, would you mind collecting the Adobe CC logs https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/cc-log-collector.html , Procmon logs (Win Only)  https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/Labs/acromonitor.html  and  share them via any cloud storage. Just upload the log file to the cloud and generate the link and share that link with us for further investigation.

Also, a small video recording of your workflow/steps would be very beneficial. Make sure you have the Acrobat application updated to the latest version 23.03.20284 Go to Help > Check for updates and reboot the computer once.

Regards

Amal

Thanks for having a look Amal!

The CC logs collector seemed to indicate I can just give you this file name: AdobeLogs_20230908_113934_372-win-GS.zxp

Before running the process monitor I reset the preferences by deleting all the files from the \AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Acrobat\DC folder, then deleted the DC branch from the registry and imported the "good" DC branch and started the process monitor.

I opened Acrobat and opened a couple of files and the Next and Previous views were working fine. I closed Acrobat, reopened it and the they were diabled again. Then I stopped the monitor.

I've attached a zip file of the monitor folder here.

Hi @KenWK,

Thanks for collecting the logs, however I am not able to find any attachment of the zip file for process monitor.

Would you mind sharing the required logs again? You may also upload the log file to any cloud storage of your preferences and create a link and share that link with us, so that we can isolate this issue for the fix.

Amal

Yeah, sorry, didn't look like it went but I wasn't sure. Tried attaching again here using the browse button this time (instead of drag and drop) but it looks as it did before so I'm not sure it'll work. Hopefully the link below does.

Hi @KenWK

It has been a while since you reported this issue.

Since, this is thread still appears to be open, just wanted to check if the keys are working fine at your end after resetting the preferences?

thanks,

Bhawna.

I had not gotten them to start working again. Had the 32 bit version installed because one of the plug-ins we use quite frequently only comes in 32 bit. After trying an uninstall and re-install, I unintalled again and installed the 64 bit version and hadn't had that same trouble.
