Acrobat DC: Circle and Rectangle tool in "Comment" not working

Previously, using the "Comment" toolbar I was able to click on the circle or square icon and then simply draw a circle or square around existing text in a pdf.  Now, even though I follow the directions after a Right Click (on the square with the sizing bubbles), to choose a frame style, frame color and line thickness; and even click "Make Properties Default", the square with the sizing bubbles disappears.  What am I not doing?

None of the Acrobat DC tutorials address this specific issue.  I have tried Adobe chat and have been left on hold for over 30 minutes and then was told to try calling Adobe Help.  When I called Adobe Help I did not allow the 45+ minutes that I was on hold to talk with a live technician, before I had to hang up, so did not want to try phone help again.

That was such a nice function, any help will be much appreciated!

Thanks,

Jeff

I'm in the same boat as of yesterday. The rectangle tool won't stick. I draw it, but as soon as I let go of the mouse ... it disappears. The other Comment tools seem to work, though. It's just Rectangle that won't cooperate. I ran a check for Acrobat updates, too, but I'm current.

This happened to a colleague at work. We both stumbled onto the following fix (which still did not explain why the problem happened in the first place): My colleague sent the PDF document to me and I added a rectangle to it, saved, then sent it back. Then my colleague opened the document, right-clicked on the rectangle that I had drawn, and checked the box to make the properties default. After that my colleague was able to draw rectangles and see them appear. Everything worked normally after that.
