Acrobat DC help - cannot change font color in text box

I cannot now change the color of the font used within a text box that I have added to a drawing while marking it up. I can open the properties toolbar (CTRL-E), select the text, go to the color picker and select a color, but the text always remains black. This used to work.

Do you have the text selected when you select the new colour?
