Acrobat DC Pro keeps crashing while commenting

New Here ,
Nov 16, 2016 Nov 16, 2016

I've been using Acrobat DC Pro for two weeks now on Windows 10. The app sometimes crashes while using the strike out and replace tool. It doesn't happen every time I use this tool, but I lose several comments on the PDF file every time Acrobat crashes and I need to restart it. This is pretty annoying! I got in touch with Adobe support here in Brazil, but the agents weren't helpful at all. I'm about to cancel my subscription and go for a free option... I've just lost over 60 comments on the PDF file I was working on. Hope someone can help me.

p.s.: I've already uninstalled the app using the Adobe cleaner and installed Acrobat again. It didn't work.

Hi Vivianek35575920,

Please try these steps and see if any of it works:

  • Firstly, on the document, go to Edit>Preferences>Documents and check mark the option that says 'automatically save document changes' and set the time to 1 minute and hit ok and try to reproduce the issue.
  • Also, try using a different user profile for the same.
  • And try to create a PDF document from Word file and then comment and check for the issue

Let me know if the issue still persists.

Thanks,

Supriya

Hi Supryia

Thanks for your reply. I changed the save preferences to 1 minute, as you suggested. I also created a PDF file from a Word doc and the same issue happened.

I didn't quite understand your second suggestion - "try using a diferente user profile for the same". Could you clarify that?

Tks!

Viviane

I am having a similar issue but the crash is happening when I use the "search comments" feature (to edit certain existing comments) rather than the strike out and replace as vivianek35575920 had been experiencing. Before I came to this page, I noticed that saving frequently can bypass the issue of losing comments, but it is still incredibly frustrating when the app crashes. I have already checked for adobe updates and the version I have installed is already up to date! Please help! I don't know what else to do. There was a different forum thread from 2010 for a similar issue and someone had mentioned that it might be a bad .plist file or preference file? Does this still have relevance/meaning? I have Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Version 2018.011.20040 and MacOS 10.13.4

Hi Vivianek,

Sorry to hear about the frustrating experience.

As application is still crashing when searching for comment. Then you may try the following troubleshooting steps and let us know if that helps.

1- Reset the Acrobat preferences, following these steps- How to reset Preference settings in Acrobat.

2- If it still doesn't work, then use cleaner tool to uninstall the application- Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs and reinstall Download Pro or Standard versions of Acrobat DC | Non-subscription

Regards,

Akanchha
