Good evening,
The explorer preview of a PDF with Adobe Acrobat makes windows explorer freeze.
There is a pop-up:
I am using a french version on a french OS, translated it would mean "an internal error happened".
So, to sum up as an answer to what I saw in different forums:
Please.
Help me, I'm so bored of having this preview problem because as a photographer I keep the preview on all the time and a single click on a PDF file makes it easier to restart the PC than to wait... Apart from that, the software runs perctecly.
So does explorer.
Martin

Thank you for keeping me updated.
I also noticed it did not occur within my old PC environment (a 2016 Asus).
Just on the new 2021 laptop I currently have, whith does not contain any explorer add-ons.

You don't need to keep "Enable PDF thumbnail previews in Windows Explorer" on all the time.
You can disable that Preference.
You may, however, need to disable in Preferences => Security (Enhanced) ==> "Enable Protected Mode at Startup (Preview)
AND
In File Explorer keep the Preview Pane enabled

This I already tried.
With Acrobat, disabling this setting does not change anything.
With the preview, it's not a functional solution. I use the preview all the time, I'm a photographer/graphic designer and for obvious efficiency reasons there is almost no case I won't be using it. So having to forecast when I'll be unlucky enough to missclick on a pdf file, using this insight to disable the most normal function, then open that file, then enable again the preview, then realise that I have to open another pdf, repeat the operation [...].
Just doesn't work.

So I am thinking, just for troubleshooting purposes, that if you are on Windows 10 you should check if Internet Explorer 11 is still integrated.
You can try disabling it completely and let Microsoft Edge be default shell.... just guessing in the blind here.
