Acobat Pro seems to crash constantly when attempting to edit larger PDF files. Full uninstall/reinstall is not helping. Running on a M1 Mac, Big Sur 11.5.1. Any ideas?

Hi Neil. I've reached out to Adobe to find out what's going on with that settting. Will advise their response.

Cheers. I joined the thread because I, too, have an M1 (ie. not Intel). Either way, option ain't there no more!

Hi there,

Hope you are doing well and thanks for reaching out.

Please note that UI is not required as by default Acrobat has been made to run in native apple mode only. If it’s not running then please check if old keys as below are set to disable the apple mode. Also check if this is disabled by the OS “Run in Rosseta’ checkbox present in Get info dialog of OS.

Old Keys:
~/Library/Preferences/com.adobe.Acrobat.Pro.plist/AcrobatRunInNativeModeDC
To enable native mode, AcrobatRunInNativeModeDC : YES
To enable emulation mode again, set it to NO

For more information please check the help page: https://adobe.ly/4aWLdOy

Hi,

Suggestions:

  1. This option does not exist on my Macbook Air M1 running Sonoma 14.5 and Adobe Acrobat Pro 2020 Version 2020.005.30635 (see pic):Screenshot 2024-07-10 at 2.39.51 PM.png
  2. Disabled, but does not help.
  3. How specifically do I remove 3rd party plugins?
  4. Tried this, but does not help.

Questions:

  1. I use PDFs stored on both my local hardrive (which is connected to iCloud) and also from my work's Google Drive. PDFs from any/all those locations crash my Adobe.
  2. I seem to have more problems with the large docs (e.g., over 5MB) but also run into the issue on smaller meg files. The problem only seems to be getting worse and more prevalent no matter how many times I uninstall/install, and reboot my computer. Please help as this is literally the most unproductive part of my day, This should not be happening with a Pro level app that has been around for decades now--why can't they fix it?

Hi there

We are sorry to hear that the application is crashing when you try to edit the PDF files. Would you mind collecting the Crash/freeze logs (https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/collect-logs-crash-freeze.html) and sharing them via any cloud storage? Just upload the log file to the cloud, generate the link, and share that link with us for further investigation.
