Acrobat Pro DC Installation Issues

New Here ,
Aug 07, 2024 Aug 07, 2024

Hi, we are having issues where some users licensed for Acrobat Pro DC are unable to install the 64 bit client, because Adobe CC Desktop detects Acrobat Reader DC 32bit client as being installed and then offers an "Open" option for the Pro.

Clicking Open does nothing (presumably as it's trying to make a call to the 64bit Pro client, which is not installed), there is not possibility to resolve the issue without removing Acrobat Reader 32bit from the device and then re-opening Adobe CC, which then offers an Install option for the licensed Pro version.

Can you confirm this is some form of bug in the detection method of Acrobat CC Desktop.?  Ideally we would only have one version of Acrobat installed on the device (32 bit Reader or 64 bit Pro), but CC Desktop should not be detecting Acrobat Reader and then blocking the install of Acrobat Pro.

Hi @Paul38917427yl74

Sorry for the delayed response.

With Acrobat 64-bit, it is not now possible to have both Acrobat and Reader installed on the same machine.

You can have Acrobat Pro 64-bit or Reader; these apps now have a unified installer. This means if you sign out from Acrobat Pro 64-bit, it will run in Reduced mode and behave like Reader, and if you sign in with Adobe ID having an Active Subscription, the application will turn into Acrobat Pro with all features active.

Let us know if you have more questions.
