Acrobat Pro DC - script to add continuous numbering?

I have a PDF of a few hundred pages, where  I want to add continous numbering on the left and right of the page (the pages are mixed portrait and landscape in the same PDF).  The line numbers don't have to match with the actual text on the page.  Is there some macro code that can be used to do this?

I know line numbering can be difficutl in PDF, but this should be an easier task, as the numbers don't have to match with the actual text on the page.  I could obviously do this manually - page by page, but it would be very tedious, so am looking for an autoated solution.

appear on the left and right of the page. Below is an example of what I want to achieve. How can I do this in word? Does anyone have an example of a macro that may do this?

Create images with the numbers and in Adobe Acrobat use the images as watermarks.

That is too time consuming, unless you have some automated script.

You can add the watermarks with a script.
