Acrobat "Out of Memory" - What is causing this?

Acrobat slows, comes to a crawl then stops with Acrobat dialog box simply stating "Out of Memory."  Working on local PCs that have plenty of memory and hard disk space.  PDF files range from 6 to 25 megs.  Problem occurs when two PDFs are open at the same time and we are dragging pages across from page view in one into page view in the other.  Initially works fine. But as more and more documents are opened and edited this way, everyting begins to slow down to where moving even a single page brings Adobe to a halt.  This is happening on 4 different PCs running different Acrobat versions including 8 Pro, 9 Standard and 9 Pro.  These are medical charts with lots of graphics, but all created by Adobe from scanners.  Some of the documents include Adobe form filled documents.  We were doing this with the documents on the server, so Bill@VT suggested we work on the documents on the local machines. That sounded great, but still having the problem. Help!

Try emptying the TEMP folder. This may be the out of memory issue you have. Keep in mind that as you open a large PDF, any graphics that are expanded may make the size grow a lot in terms of memory requirements. Acrobat uses the TEMP folder for memory overflow as I recall and it is likely almost full.

You might also do a Save As periodically and try to clear things.
