Adding 3D to padf

New Here ,
May 15, 2025 May 15, 2025

After embedding a 3D model in U3D format into a PDF, the display appears as a grey image instead of rendering the actual model with textures or details. Is there a way to ensure the 3D view renders the model correctly with full visual details? Additionally, is there a direct method to convert a SolidWorks part file into a PRC or U3D format compatible with Adobe Acrobat's 3D PDF requirements?

Hi @harikeerthi_4419

Thank you for reaching out with your question. As far as I know, we don't have integration with SolidWorks, you can check on their community if they have some plugin that provides an integration.

Here are some suggestions, ensuring the Correct Rendering of 3D Models in U3D Format

When embedding a 3D model in U3D format into a PDF, if the display appears as a grey image instead of rendering the actual model with textures or details, there are a few steps you can take to ensure the 3D view renders correctly:

  1. Check the Export Settings: Ensure that the export settings from your CAD software are configured to include textures and details. Sometimes, the default settings might not include all the necessary visual information.
  2. Use Adobe Acrobat's 3D Tool: Adobe Acrobat has a 3D tool that supports U3D and PRC formats. Make sure you are using the correct version of Acrobat that supports these formats. You can find more information on adding 3D models to PDFs here
  3. Adjust the 3D Settings in Acrobat: Once the model is embedded, you can adjust the 3D settings within Acrobat. This includes setting the correct lighting, background, and rendering options to ensure the model displays correctly.
  4. Previewing Output: Use the Output Preview tool in Acrobat to check the color space and ensure that the model is rendered correctly. This can help identify if there are any issues with the color settings
