Adobe 9.5 crashes after opening double-clicked .pdf document

Community Beginner ,

When I double-click on a .pdf in Windows Explorer, Acrobat 9.5.5.316 opens, and then crashes after 5 or so seconds.  It happens every time, with any .pdf file, and generates the same event log entries every time.  However!, I can open Adobe Acrobat 9 and then open the same files within Adobe.  So, what gives?

OS:  Windows 10 Pro v1809 installed 19-04-01, build 17763.737

System:  Dell Precision 7720 with Xeon CPU E3 @ 3.10GHz and 64.0GB ram, 1TB SSD and 2TB hard drive.

Hi TXJax,

Thanks for reaching out. As described above, Adobe 9.5 crashes after opening double-clicked .pdf document, correct?

Adobe Acrobat  9 is an old and out dated application and its not compatible on Windows 10. For detailed information please refer to the help article - https://helpx.adobe.com/in/reader/system-requirements-old-versions.html#AdobeReader9

Moreover, Adobe Acrobat 9 is a end of support application please refer to the help article - https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/end-support-acrobat-8-reader.html

Regards,

Amal

Actually, it is perfectly compatible with Windows 10. This started just recently. Also, Adobe 9.5 does not crash if it is opened first.
