Adobe Acrobat freezing - May 2023

Hello,

Every time I try to open Adobe Acrobat, it freezes without opening any files, prompting me to force quit the program and attempt to open it again. I uninstalled and reinstalled the application, but the issue persists. I attempted to check the protection mode in the preferences menu, but the application becomes unresponsive after 3 seconds of opening it.

This issue occurs when attempting to open any PDF file and when opening the application without any files. This issue is particularly inconvenient, as I use the application on a daily basis.

I am currently using the latest version available, which I downloaded yesterday from my Creative Cloud account (version 2023.001.20177). Are there any possible solutions to this problem?

Thanks,

Hammad

Hi @Ahmed_Hamad

Hope you are doing well and thanks for reaching out.

Please try to remove the application using the Acrobat cleaner tool https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/Labs/cleaner.html , reboot the computer once and reinstall the application using the direct link
https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/acrobat-dc-downloads.html and check.

Let us know how it goes.

Amal

I too am having this problem running on MacBook Pro. I contacted Adobe tech support and through remote access we uninstalled and reinstalled, using cleaner, and finally after uninstalling all Adobe products it worked long enough for tech support to leave me thinking all was well, after two hours. As soon as I tried to open an actual PDF file with Acorbat it again crashed, and now closes a few seconds after clicking the icon to open.

I am now back where I was, cannot run Adobe or Distiller. Thanks. Jim

Hi there

What is the version of the Acrobat DC you are using? To check the version go to Help > About Acrobat and make sure you have the recent version 23.08.2042X  installed. Go to Help > Check for updates and reboot the computer once.

Also try to repair the installation from the help menu (Win Only) and see if that works.

Please try to reset the Acrobat preferences as described here https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-discussions/how-to-reset-acrobat-preference-settings-to-default/td-p/4792082

You may also try to create a new test user profile with full admin rights in Win or enable the root account in MAC and try using the application there and check.
