My serial number for Adobe Acrobat 2017 expired, so I bought a new one for Adobe Acrobat Pro 2020. I downloaded and installed the software and entered the serial number. When I try to open Adobe or a PDF document, the screen starts to open then crashes immediately. I can't get past this issue.
Per advice on another thread, I deleted Acrobat Pro, restarted my system, and then installed Acrobat DC. It worked fine. The next step was to upgrade DC to Pro, but the software asked me to purchase the upgrade - it didn't give me an option to enter my serial number.
I uninstalled all instances of Adobe products from my system, restarted the computer, and did a clean install of Acrobat 2020 Pro. However, it is still crashing on startup. I did see the registration screen flash up briefly before closing this time.
How do I solve this? I need more functionality than DC provides. I don't want to get a monthly subscription, especially since I already paid for a standalone serial number.
Here are the specifics for my system:

We had exact same issue. We resolved this by deleting everything out of C:\ProgramData\Adobe\SLStore. Apparently, after an uninstall of 2017 Version 11 it doesn't remove licensing information

Serial numbers do not expire except if they are from illegal sources.

Let me clarify - the serial number for Acrobat Pro 2017 did not expire; Acrobat Pro 2017 reached end-of-life in June 2022. It continued to work for me until about two weeks ago when I received a notice that it would no longer be functional - thus, my attempted upgrade to Acrobat Pro 2023

So I figured it out:
1. After you unpack the ZIP file, DON'T run Setup.exe like the instructions state. Run the AcroPro Windows installer package.
2. During the installation, it will ask for your purchased serial number. Input it, and the installation will continue.
3. Run Acrobat 2020 Pro WITHOUT opening a document. It will tell you your trial subscription has ended.
4. It will give you several options. Select "I have purchased and Adobe Acrobat Serial Number"
5. Input your serial number again
6. The app should now work.

I'm ready to pull out my hair. I have tried EVERYTHING to get this version to work on my Windows laptop but to no avail. I have a serial number for Acrobat 2020 and even when I run the AcroPro Windows Installer Package, it still does not work. Ugh. I even ran the patch and nothing has helped. It immediately opens then closes before I have the chance to do anything. I feel like there is NO support for this issue besides the question you posed above. I've rebooted a million times and uninstalled everything for Adobe I can find on my PC and then reinstalled it again and and again and it gives me the same error. "Sorry something went wrong". When I click on the "Learn More" button it tells me that it is a macOS error, which I did not download. I'm not sure what the issue is and why this isn't working. My 2017 version worked without issue for 3 years. Then said my serial number was no longer valid, so I purchased this new version, but I'm about to give up.
