I am in the same boat. Had a PC crash at work that ran this. I have the disc and serial number etc...but it's telling me I have 30 days to activate, and have no ability to do so.

 

I can totally see not supporting the product anymore..but taking away any ability to activate/use a product I've already paid money for, and that still works, is ridiculous, if not illegal.

 

Genuinely don't know what to do here to continue use of this product.

I contacted Adobe Customer Care, explained to them my situation, and
they hooked me up with a copy of Acrobat Pro X for Windows free of
charge.  You should do the same.

I agree, but there's really nothing that can be done about it. Acrobat 8 can no longer be used.

I do think that Adobe is aware this is problematic, which is why they're offering some people free upgrades, although you should know that Acrobat X is also outdated, and not compatible with any current OS version. You also can't upgrade from it to the current version.
