Hi,

We are using newest version Acrobat Reader 2023.003.2020 1.

Following setting does not have any effect:

"Edit > Preferences > Documents, and then select Remember current state of Tools pane."

With every new opened file the Tools Pane appears again.

Hope, that someone can help.

BR Dieter

Hi,

can you share some technical information? like the version of your operating system and how the software is installed.

It is possible that when the software was installed centrally (from deployment server) the preferences were added to a roaming folder. Everytime a user logs in, the server and policies resets to the install defaults, hence overwritting your preferences.

Also, for some applications, it is better to change the preferences without any document opened. This applies the changes to the software not the document.

Hi Eric,

At present we have 2 machines with Acrobat Reader 23 installed.

Both were installed stand alone and received automatic update.

Machine 1: Win 10 Pro, 22H2 with Acrobat Reader 23.001.20174.0 (64 Bit)

Machine 2: Win 7 Pro (64 Bit) with Acrobat Reader 23.003.2020 1 (32 Bit ?)

Language: German

Both machines show similar behaviour.

On machine 2 I just uninstalled and reinstalled the software. Without success.

It doesn't matter whether you do the setting with or without an open document.

Hi,

today I received an update on the Win 7 machine.

Acrobat Reader 23.003.20215

Problem still exists.

Just a short question:

Are there any other people having that problem?

Hi,

I've found a workaround for this problem.

"On the New UI of Acrobat, navigate to View>Disable New Acrobat."

https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-reader-discussions/hide-all-tools-pane-permenatly-2023/m-p/13...

That works.

Thanks you, that worked great, the only way I have been able to fix it. I agree that Acrobat is just full of adware!!

I am also experiencing the same thing. I use Windows 11 and have selected the "Remember the current state of Tools pane" but it keeps coming up every time I open a new document, it wasn't like this with the previous version. My current version is 2023.003.20244 and it's just frustrating to constantly close the tools pane all the time. I don't need it!

Absolutely agree. Adobe Reader is bordering on adware. 99% of use cases is to read (only) a doc and that's it.
