Adobe Acrobat Reader/Pro Not Responding

Have mulitple users reporting the same problem, when they open a PDF that was scanned to their email it will open the PDF but almost immediately stop responding.

Troubleshooting steps already done:

Restarted the computer, repaired Adobe install, Uninstalled and Reinstalled Adobe, Disabled protected view in the Advanced Security, Disabled New Acrobat

Most PDFs open fine but ones that have been scanned in are causing the program to stop responding. I have two dump files that give the issue as:

Faulting_Thread: 000038e0

Error_Code: (NTSTATUS) 0x80000003

I have attached a scanned PDF that is causing it to stop responding.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

I actually just got off the phone with support. We dtermined it was the way our printer/scanners were encoding the files. Turned a setting off in our printer management software to stop it from making the PDF's searchable and now we are no longer having it freeze up on us.

Have you recently changed print servers out of curiosity?

Interesting, we where looking at it being potensially an OCR issue lol with the way the images get scanned and synced so we had thought it was an issue with that instead but yeah thanks for this 🙂

We were also having this issue. After speaking to our print provider, they also said about turning off OCR and this seems to resolve the issue. Be interesting to know what system your scans are using.

This is a useful answer and thank you very much for finding and sharing it. We can certainly look to change how scanned docs are handled in the future to avoid this issue, but the problem is that we have thousands of legacy PDF docs in our document management storage system, and rescanning them or even (if one were availabile) running a batch utility against the files to remove the attribute, just isn't feasible. It seems that this problem developed with perhaps a recent versions of Acrobat and perhaps the .exe should account for this attribute and proceed accordingly.

Is there something we can disable in Reader to preventy this behavior?
