New Here ,
May 04, 2025 May 04, 2025

Hello,

A user is opening outlook with no issues but when we select on a PDF attached via outlook the application goes into a "not responding" stage for a few minuts then will eventually open the attachment.

I have re-installed both outlook and adobe, i have disabled the add in, at the moment we have another PDF viewer that is workign but we need the Adobe.

Any idea?

Hi SharpEIT34365156o62w,

Sorry for the troubled experience, and thank you for reaching out.

Please ensure your copy of Acrobat is updated. To check for any pending updates, launch Acrobat > Help > Check For Updates.

Try disabling protected mode at startup. This suggestion is for testing only:

To disable protected mode, you'll typically navigate to the application's settings, usually under "Options" or "Preferences," then find the "Protected View" or "Security (Enhanced)" section. Uncheck any options that enable protected mode and apply the changes.

Also, let us know the exact workflow, how the user is trying to open a PDF file from an Outlook email attachment.

I’ve updated both Adobe and Outlook to their latest versions. The user is able to open all emails and attachments without any issues—until she tries to open a PDF attachment.

When she selects the email, it opens normally. However, when she double-clicks the PDF attachment, Outlook becomes unresponsive for about five minutes before eventually recovering and opening the file.

The device has good specifications, so I’ve ruled out hardware resource limitations as the cause.

I assume you are on Windows.

I use both without any unreasonable delay. I would look at any security or virus software first. Try disabling it temporarily to see if the speed improves.
