Adobe DC desktop - cant update headers

After adding page numbers to a PDF file I tried to go back and make some changes.  I get the message 'Adobe Acrobat DC cannot update the header or footer information on this document'.   How can I fix this?

I did try removing the footer but it removes headers also which is information for a spreadsheet title - it was not entered as a header.

Check for any pending updates of Acrobat from Help>Check for updates, reboot the machine after the updates and see if this brings any difference.
