Hi,
we have a Problem on an Terminalserver.
There is installed the Adobe DC Pro and the normal Adobe Reader DC.
So we set manually the Adobe Reader DC to Default, but always the Pro starts.
If i Rename the Adobe Pro.exe, the Adobe Reader Dc starts whiout any warnung or error cause he is set as default.
We have reinstalled both Porgramms.
You have any Idea why the Adobe Pro starts althrough the aodbe Reader DC is the Default.

Hello,
Im wonderd, that you ask me this:
Have you tried the regular method, just right-clicking on a PDF ---> select "Open with " --->> then select "Choose another app", and last select Adobe Acrobat from the list and tick the box that says" "Always use this app to open .pdf files"
Im was searing in Registy an in other deeper areas and you think i have not checked the basics?
As far as the GPO is concerned you may have to manually edit the administrative template that is usually an XML file.
I Have found myfelf the Recpath wich disable this Point. I have used Regon to found it.
Created a GPO with a Regfile Edit and its done.
The Reg path is:
HKCU\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\DC\AvGeneral\bEnableReaderPassThrough
set it to 0 and it was done in my case.

I think that in this case you may have to do that via registry lockable preferences settings.
The terminal server part raises other questions.
Can you briefly describe which steps or method have you followed when setting up your default PDF handler?
And is this done locally on the server via group policy and administrative templates, XML files?
Are you using the Adobe Acrobat Customization wizard?

What registry settings are there?.

We selected a PDf and selected the standard. If you say open with Adobe Reader -> the Adobe Reader Pro opens. We have set adobe Reader DC via Windows in the standard programs. This did not improve either
We have Reinstalled both Programms.

This is one Locally. This Problem exists since 2 Weeks.
Are you using the Adobe Acrobat Customization wizard?
Whats is this ? 😕 no 😃

Hello,
so i have checked your links, but these one are wont help.
i have searched again and found something strange out.
If i go unter my normal adobe reader DC, NOT PRO, there is a point under Preferences -> Gerneral.
If I remove the hook by -> PDFFiles always open in Adobe Acrobat DC
The Normal Adobe Reader will open.
If i SET the hook, adobe reader Pro will open. WTF?
How can i set this point over GPO/ Registy?
I Can recreate it with set the hook again.
Realy strage...

I ask the basics because it is a basic step in PC troubleshooting.
Diagnosing a PC has nothing to do with doubting a person's knowledge and skills.
It is a way to doublecheck that simple steps were not skipped in order to move forward with a bigger challenge.
But hey, I am glad you figured it out on your own with no help.
Don't forget to mark your answer as correct if editing the registry in Windows Server terminal resolved your issue
