Hey johnc65620596,

Acrobat 9 Std. is a very old version and not compatible with Windows 10 platform which is why you might be experiencing a problem.

You must install and use a supported version for your Operating System.

Please refer the below mentioned KB doc links to know details on the system requirements:

System requirements | Acrobat family of products—older versions (XI, X, 9)

System requirements | Adobe Acrobat Pro DC, Adobe Acrobat Standard DC

Hope that helps.

Regards,

Anubha

John:

Don't listen to that Adobe staff member that gave you that lame answer.  i have Acrobat 9 running just fine on my Windows 10 system.  They are 3rd-party customer service reps in India or Pakistan that are just trying to talk you in to paying big bucks for a program that you don't need.  They don't know diddly and their entire function is to get people to buy more Adobe products.

Simply RIGHT CLICK on any PDF file and then select "Open With" and scroll down the list until you see your Acrobat 9 Standard program listed.  Select the program you want and make sure the check box is selected that says to make it the default program for opening all PDFs.  Click okay and, ta-da, you now have all of your PDFs opening with Acrobat 9 standard once again.

Have Windows 10. I updated Reader to DC and it made it the default. Found Acrobat Pro 9 with "open with" but there was no check area for making it default. Looks like that disappeared with Windows 10??? Any help appreciated.

Windows 10 default apps can be set by going to the proper tool.

It is more complicated than that.  The latest update stripped away the .exe file and drivers, leaving only a few useless readme files.  If you have any other Adobe Acrobat Reader (or DC) program on your system, then the system will not allow you to re-install your original Adobe Acrobat 9.

Rather insidious of Adobe to intentionally disable lawfully purchased and used software, simply so Adobe can push consumers to purchase a new software version or paid subscription.

Going to ilovepdf(dot)com is an instant way to freely fill-in pdfs in the interim.  I'm going to uninstall all Adobe PDF software and try to re-install...

I fixed it for me.  I had to uninstall all Adobe Acrobat (and DC), and then reinstall my software using the original key.  Acrobat 9 (standard) works now.
