Can bookmarks for pdf files only be plain text?

Hello,

I see the bookmarks in pdf files are always plain text. Is there a way to make them shown as themselves in the contents? For example:

You can use Unicode characters, but not something like emojis.

For example, superscript 2 can be used with this: ²

Lower-case-delta  Superscript-2  Capital-Latin-H is something I'd consider to be "plain text" in the Unicode world. You can copy and might be able to paste this:

δ²H

It may be a lot of study and work if your document doesn't use Unicode.
