Can global / persistent variables be used on the a mobile device?

I created a serial Number, which gets increased each time when we want to save the form. As it is a serial number, this also has to work after closing the program. So, I work with global variables and of course the "global.setPersistent()" method and it works perfectly fine on my PC but not on the iPad.

Acrobat Reader on Android or iOS doesn't support this.
