can i replace the original document in a form with an updated version?

I have updated the underlying word document that was used when I created a form. The changes are more than could be accomodated with Acrobat's editor. I heard somewhere that the underlying document could be replaced without changing the form layer. Anyone know how to do that?

Sorry, just figured it out. Make the new word file into a second pdf, and replace all the old pdf pages with the new pdf pages. then adjust the fields as needed.
