I was getting a blank white window popping up over my pdf files, so following a suggestion I uninstalled adobe acrobat from my laptop. Now I can't reinstall it. Each time it says that I am logged in and I can close the window. Then I am left with a pop up window, over which a message appears saying that javascript is not enabled. However, in my settings javascript is shown as being active?
I've cleared my cache and restarted my laptop all to no effect.
Can anyone help please? (Note: I'm not a technical wiz).

Hi karenl,
Please confirm the Adobe Acrobat version you have been trying to reinstall? Also, do you get this message "it says that I am logged in and I can close the window" when you try to reinstall the application or when trying to open the PDF?
We assume its Acrobat DC, so try this before reinstalling the app:
Run this cleaner tool to remove the application's previous traces: http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
Once done, reboot your system
Try downloading it from this link: https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/acrobat-dc-downloads.html
If it still doesn't work then share the screenshot of the error message appear on screen.
Thanks,
Akanchha

Thanks for the inputs.
Please try these additional steps:
1- Navigate to Acrobat>Edit>Preferences>Security (Enhanced)>disable "Protected Mode at Startup", "Protected View" and "Enhanced Security">OK>close and reopen Acrobat
Note: these changes are only for testing purpose. Once tested, please change it back to the previous setting.
2- Navigate to Edit>Preferences>General and uncheck these two options:
