Cannot create a distribution file

New Here ,
Jun 27, 2025 Jun 27, 2025

I am currently using Adobe Acrobat Pro 2020 and taking previous versions of a form I have used in past
years and updating certain data fields and headings.  I am looking to distribute this file (Tools --> Prepare
Form --> Distribute --> Distribute Form (email option) --> Save a local copy and manually send later -->
check off "collect name & email from recipients to provide optimal tracking" and then hit "finish" ).
However, no distribution file is being created.  My IT department has not been very responsive in
attempting to resolve this issue.  I have attempted modifying file names, selecting different locations to
save...but nothing is working.  This process has always worked in previous years.  Has anyone
experienced this issue and if so, how can it be resolved?  Thank you

Hi Darren_2581,

Thank you for reaching out.

Please try the troubleshooting steps suggested below:

1. Check PDF Security Settings. Ensure the PDF is not restricted in a way that prevents form distribution:

- Go to File → Properties → Security.

- Confirm that form filling and content copying are allowed.
2. Verify PDF/A Compliance: If the file was saved as a PDF/A, it may block interactive features:

- Look for the Standards panel in the navigation pane.
- If it's PDF/A, recreate the file without that setting.
3. Ensure Form Fields Are Interactive. Sometimes forms copied from older versions lose interactivity:

- Use the Prepare Form to confirm that all fields are recognized.
- If prompted, allow Acrobat to detect form fields again.
4. Try Saving to a Different Location
- Save the distribution file to a local folder with full write permissions (e.g., Desktop or Documents).

5. Run Acrobat as Administrator. Right-click the Acrobat shortcut and choose Run as administrator to rule out permission issues.

6. Check for Updates. Go to Help → Check for Updates.

Let us know if the issue still occurs.

Thanks,

Meenakshi
