Cannot create pdf from Word file

New Here ,
Aug 28, 2021 Aug 28, 2021

For the last couple of weeks I am unable to create pdf files from Word documents.

Regardless of how I try. I have tried to Save as Adobe pdf directly from Word and also by importing the Word file into Acrobat Pro - both come up with this error (translated by me from Danish):

"An unexpected error occurred. PDFMaker could not produce the Adobe PFD file".

Why is this happening?

Both my Office 365 and Acrobat Pro are updated to the most recent versions.

And I'm on a pc with a fully updated Win10.

Just note now: When in Word, I open Acrobat in the top menu and click Create pdf - it says that my licence has either ended or is not activated - both are wrong, I have been using the program for years and it is still active.

Every once in a while, my PDF Maker fails from Word, and it indicates I do not have a subscription.  If I then launch Acrobat, and wait a few seconds for my subscription to be recognized, I can then go back and make the PDF without further issue.  Maybe this routine can help.

My best,

Dave

I tried that, but the error is not only occurring in Word - it also gives the same error when I am trying to create a pdf from inside of Acrobat, so the error it not related to Acrobat not being open or active,

Just to narrow down the issue: Does it also fail when you use Word's built-in PDF Save? This is independent of the Acrobat PDFMaker route and is not affected by any licensing issues.

No, I can save and print to pdf without problems in Word.

I have found that this helps me to make my (writeable) pdf - first I save it as pdf from Word, then I can use Prepare forms  in Acrobat from the pdf instead of from the Word file.

Hi @PoulT

Hope you are doing well.

As you have mentioned that you are unable to convert a word document to PDF. For this, here is a link to a similar issue, kindly follow the troubleshooting steps provided: https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-discussions/pdfmaker-was-unable-to-produce-the-adobe-pdf/m-p/...

Let us know if that works

Thanks,

Harsh

LATEST

I have tried to change the settings in Word as described.

Now I get a message that my licese has expired - which is incorrect.

So there seems to be no way to get ahead - I have tried to uninstall and reinstall Acrobat, but the problem persists.

Regards Poul
