'cannot find CMap resource file'

I have a .pdf that displays correctly in the source app (FrameMaker) and in Acrobat X. It also prints correctly.

When I try to use Add tags to document, though, I get the message <cannot find CMap resource file> and no farther information. So, what is this file, why is its absence suddenly a problem, and what do I have to do if I want to add accessibility tags?

Thanks in advance!

[ps] Yes, I know I can create a tagged .pdf direct from FrameMaker, but that's not the question.

It is probably required to establish the meaning of the text at hand (which characters are associated with which glyphs on the page).

Tagging a PDF only makes sense if the text is meaningful (correct character associated with each glyph), and Acrobat seems to be failing when trying to retrieve the CMap.

Thanks for the background info, but I still have the question "what do I have to do if I want to add accessibility tags?"

As far as I can see, the fonts used in the .pdf are standard Windows fonts …
