Cannot save as reduced file size

Explorer ,
Mar 10, 2025 Mar 10, 2025

I am trying to save some files as reduced file size and keep running into "An error was encountered while processing images". I am using Adobe Acrobat Pro Contintuous Release Version 2025.001.20428. I have tried to flatten the layers yet it takes 'forever', not literally, even with only 50 pages. Even then I still cannot save as reduced file size because I get the same error. 😞  Is there a way to only flatten the images or something else I can do to the images?

Thank you.

Try Save as Another : Optimized PDF.

It's the same than "Reduced file size" but you can edit all settings

Thank you for your response. However, that did not work. I turned off every image related option and still received the same error!

Which software was used to generate this PDF?
(I fear the worst)

The properties indicate the orginal file was a MS Word doc and the Acrobat Distiller 7.0 (Windows) was used, PDF version 1.6 (Acrobat 7.x). There is something else - Application: PScript5.dll Version 5.2.2.

Does that give you the information you need? What are you thinking?

Hi @javablood ,

Sorry for the troubling experience. There seems to be some issue with the file. Here are a couple of things we can try:
1. You have access to Acrobat web https://adobe.ly/3QWr6Ib try compressing the file online.

2. Try analyzing the file Acrobat, open File > Tools > Print Production > Relight > Analyse PDF : https://adobe.ly/43DIjxF;

Let us know how it works.

There is no 'File > Tools > Print Production' and putting 'Print  Production' in Searhc tools, there is no 'Relight'. There is a 'pREFLIGHT'.

Hi there

We are sorry for the typo error in the previous response. Indeed, we were talking about the 'Preflight tool'. Please go through the help page https://adobe.ly/4iFbnck to learn more about how to analyze documents using the Preflight tool.

Amal,

I tried that, yet the screen shown on the linked page did not appear and instead Adobe Acrobat Pro went into a  not responding mode for which I had to force closure. My first question has not yet been answered - Is there a way to only flatten the images or something else I can do to the images? Thank you.

javablood, revert to the Classic UI before accessing to Print Production / Preflight, it should be easier:

None if you don't need the AI assistant, but you can return to the “new experience” whenever you like.

Ya know, I think I already  have the Classic UI because I do not have the "hamburger menu" in the upper left corner (3 horizontal bars where the old "File" menu used to be). I have the old "File" menu.  I must of reverted back after purchasing this and forgot because I hated the new UI. Now what? 😉
