Cannot save form I just created

I just created a form from an existing .pdf, using Adobe Pro DC. It won't allow me to save or save as. I get a popup box that says "This document could not be saved. There was a problem reading the document. (8)" I put a lot of time into the form and I don't want to lose all the effort by not being able to save it. I have tried saving in different locations and changing the name.

Hi,
Can you tell what the original source document was ccreated with? Or was it passwrod protected to prevent editing, printing or allowing changes to begin with ?
Is this a government form that only allows to Fill & Sign? Are you accessing this form from a shared drive where other users could also have this form opened at the same time?
Have you or could you have more instances of the same PDF opened in another application, like a web browser for example?

The document was originally created as a Word doc, then published as a .pdf before turning it into a fillable form. It is not password protected, nor is it designed as a sign only, and it's saved on my desktop.
Thanks for your help.

Ok, so do you remember what steps were followed when the form was exported from MS Word to PDF?
Was it using the Adobe PDF Maker add-in? Or was the Word document opened directly in Adobe Acrobat and Acrobat performed the conversion? OR, was it saved as PDF from Word? or was the Word document printed as PDF?
Sorry to ask all these questions, just trying to figure out the root of the problem.
