Change a PDF file name from .dat to .exe

I  need to change a PDF file name that ends in .dat to .exe .  I must do that and then upload it to a proprietary software for opening and readability.  Will I have to move the file from my PC to the Adobe downloads to use edit a PDF?

Terrible idea. EXE files are blocked from almost all file-sharing websites, due to security issues. Why would a site demand that it is uploaded with that extension? It also doesn't make sense. Why would a PDF file have a .dat extension in the first place? This sounds very suspicious.
