Check Boxes that have text

New Here ,
Jun 18, 2025 Jun 18, 2025

Hello all,

I'm hoping someone can help me solve this mystery 🙂

I have a form that has many check boxes. When selected an "X" will appear in the box. However, we are finding somewhere along the way, text is there instead of the X. It seems to be in the same place of the document - bottm left - "backing" No backing". I've attached the doc and examples of what is happening.

Here are the steps that the document goes through...

The Designer should mark the correct boxes, then has the client sign in-person or will send out to be e-signed. Once the document is signed the designer flattens the doc to combine it with other documents. At some point during these steps. The X that should be in the box turns into text.

Any help, thoughts, ideas is appreciated. Thank you!

Please share the actual file. It's very hard to know what's going on based only on screenshots.

Are the screen shots from different PDF viewers? Or are all of them from Acrobat/Reader?

They are from different viewers. Should all be from Acrobat Standard

The fields are standard radio buttons with the default export values.  There is no way that Acrobat Pro, Standard, or Reader, or most other PDF viewers would display "NO" and "YES" in the radio button field.  This text must be from a different viewer. Please list viewers that were used.

Interesting. Okay the designers all have Acrobat Standard BUT when it gets sent for an e-sign the client would be viewing from a different viewer. Unfortuantely, I'm not able to reach out to the client to ask them what viewer they are using.

What do you mean by "e-sign"?

And where did you get your screen shots?

Knowing these things, and the viewer being used are critical to understanding the issue.

After the document is filled out we have the client sign the document. Sometimes they do it in person with the fountain pen icon and other times they have to send the document for an e-signature.

The screenshots are from the designers.

Hi kater_2025,

Thank you for reaching out and sharing all the information.

As mentioned above, you either ask the signer to add a signature in person using the Fill & Sign tool or send the document using the request signature option in Acrobat. Is that correct?

Please confirm how you view the PDFs once they are signed. Are you using the Acrobat application or another application? It would be helpful if you could share a screenshot of the complete window.

You can redact the confidential data or share it in a private message with us. To send a private message, use the envelope icon at the top right corner of this community page.

Thanks,

Meenakshi

Meenakshi- Yes that is correct - fill & sign or the request signature.
Once the document is signed we're viewing on Acrobat Standard or Pro.

I aprreciate your help on this. However, I won't be able to provide you with all the information from the clients end. So At this point I don't want to waste anymore of your time. If I can get one of the designers or multiple designers to give me a better layout of when and how this is happening I will be back in touch.

Again, Thank you for all the time and help you've already given.

When you send the document for signing through the Adobe Sign service (which is what you are doing), it is converted into a different format. It is no longer a PDF.  The entire process is then controlled through the Adobe sign service and there are no other viewers involved.

But when the user recieves the original PDF for manual signing, they can use any PDF viewer.

In which of these processes does the text appear on the radio button?

In order to provide any helpful information on this issue we have to have complete information.

Can you outline the exact process that results in the text showing in the radio buttons?
