Combine files process never finishes

New Here ,

I've been using this function for 2 years without any issues. All in a sudden now any time I want to combine pdf files the process never finishes. Can someone tell me why or what I need to do to fix this?

We don't have much information to go on and help you. Can you share with us:

Which version of Acrobat?

Acrobat Pro? Standard? Premium? Reader?

What kind of system and OS?

Are you trying to compile a portfolio? Or are you creating PDFs from files in other formats to combine into a larger PDF?

Where are the source files located? On your system? On your physical networK? In a cloud service folder online?

With more information, we have a better shot at helping you. We need more to go on to help you.

I have the Adobe Acrobat PDF Pack plan. I can't find anywhere where it will tell me what version it is.
I have multiple pdf files that I combine into 1 pdf file. The files can be in multiple places, on my hard drive, email, or on a shared drive. I've been doing this for 2 years with no problems until now. I've tried accessing Acrobat on chrome and microsoft edge and I get the same result.

That adds another layer to this issue. The Adobe PDF Pack isn't software on your system, per se. It guarantees you access to Adobe PDF services using Adobe online servers and server-based tools.

So in addition to all that stuff I asked about above, we'd also need to know which web browser(s) you've tried for using those services and what results you've encountered from each one you've used to help narrow down your problems.

Please, if you could share answers to the questions we've asked, it'll help us help you past your issues.

Which version of Acrobat? 25.001.20756

Acrobat Pro? Standard? Premium? Reader? Reader

What kind of system and OS? Chrome and Microsoft Edge, already mentioned

Are you trying to compile a portfolio? Or are you creating PDFs from files in other formats to combine into a larger PDF? I have multiple pdf files that I combine into 1 pdf file.

Where are the source files located? On your system? On your physical networK? In a cloud service folder online? The files can be in multiple places, on my hard drive, email, or on a shared drive.

To my knowledge I believe I've answered all of the questions.

OK. Let's work from that.

  • Adobe Reader likely isn't part of the process, or the issue, because you're relying on Adobe's servers to combine your PDF files.
  • We still don't know if you're running on a Mac or Windows system, which may have an impact on the issue, but let's set that aside for a moment.
  • Thanks for reinforcing that you're getting the same response whether you use Chrome or MSEdge.

Let's see if we can focus on internet bandwidth issues and maybe help you out.

Just for testing, let's take a typical number of files and put them on your system desktop. That will put them all on your computer and take variables like third-party program processing and remote storage out of the equation. Use the browser you prefer to use and try to combine the files on your desktop into a larger, combined PDF and see what happens. Just to confirm, if you have problems try the other browser to ensure you see the same problems.

If you have problems, please let us know what you see onscreen. Do you get any error/alerts? You say the program doesn't complete, but what happens when PDF Pack doesn't finish creating your combined PDF. If it doesn't complete the combined PDF, try going to your desktop and opening a program or two to confirm that the computer isn't locking up. If you can do that, go back to your browser and try opening a new window or tab to confirm whether the browser is locking up or not.

This process will let us sleuth whether we're dealing with a network bandwidth problem, a system processing problem, or a browser interface/processing problem. And by inference, if everything is running fine except combining your PDF files, where we may need to focus on your PDF Pack processing.

If you can let me know if you're running on a Windows or Mac system, what version of operating system, and the results of the test above, we'll have somewhere to start from in fixing your issue. Also, it may help to know exactly when you started having this problem -- whether it's this week, in the last month or for the last year. That'll have some impact on possible fixes too.
