When trying to combine pdf's the screen becomes gray and you can not combine files.  It will be working fine and just stop.  You will click on Add Files and then the screen just goes grey in the area where the files should be listed.  The file will not show up to combine, combine button still has a shade of blue but nothing happens.

Hi KKugler,

Thanks for reaching out. Please beware of the spammers asking for your personal information on a third party email domain like the one below. Never share your personal or Adobe Account related information on any non adobe email domain.

As described above, combining the files in Adobe Acrobat DC is not working, correct?

We need some more information for a better understanding:

  • What is the workflow/steps you are doing to combine the files?
  • What is the version of the Adobe Acrobat DC installed on your computer? To check the version of the application go to Help > Click, About Adobe Acrobat DC
  • check for any missing updates and try updating the application. Go to Help > Check for Updates. You may also refer to the help article - https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/ReleaseNotesDC/index.html
  • Is this a behavior with some particular files or with any files you try to combine?
  • Are these files located locally on your computer or on a shared network? please try to download the file locally to your computer and check.
  • Is the application freezing /crashing on some other events as well?
  • What is the version of the OS
  • Could you please share some sample files with us for testing? Please upload the file at https://documentcloud.adobe.com/link/home/ and share the link.

We are here to help, just need more information

I am using Adobe Acrobat Pro 2017 - 2017 Release (Classic) Version 2017.011.30113 Everything has been updated supposedly. We have just switched to this version and I have had this problem since I begin using this version. The old version I never had this problem. If I close and reopen it will work for a few times and then it happens again. These are network files. I have to do this monthly with lots of files so it is faster for me to close and reopen vs download the file to the computer locally. I was just trying to see if anyone else was having this issue. My steps include: File/Create/Combine Files into a Single PDF then I click Add Files in the middle of the screen and then it happens so you can't drag files to combine.

Hi @marikosc,

Sorry for the troubled experience.
Ideally, the button shouldn't be greyed out. Would you try combining a couple of files, say Word files, and let us know what you see?

If possible, help us with the screen recording while you are trying to combine files or screenshots, that will help us identify the problem more closely.

Also, ensure your copy of Acrobat is updated, to check for pending updates, launch Acrobat > Help> Check for Updates.

If the issue doesn't get fixed, help us with the above information and with the version of Acrobat installed: https://adobe.ly/3CloOPg;

Help us with the requested information, so we can assist you.

Thank you for your patience and feedback.
