I have a PDF document with over 200 pages, and I was hoping to create a table of contents from the bookmarks.

I am using Adobe Acrobat XI Pro (Windows 10), and have already created the bookmarks. Where do I go from here??

As I mentioned in the link provided above, this can be done using a script. The one I've developed (which is paid-for) can be found here, if you're interested: Custom-made Adobe Scripts: Acrobat -- Create Table Of Contents (TOC) in a PDF file from Bookmarks

Without buying a script mentioned by Try67, you can't in Acrobat with its existing tools.

Generally, TOCs are made inside the source file (such as Word or Adobe InDesign) and when the PDF is exported, the TOC is already in the PDF.

So you have 2 choices:

  1. Purchase a script to do it in Acrobat, or
  2. Go back to the source document, create the TOC with its TOC utility, and re-export a new PDF that contains the TOC.

Thank you for the information.

I was able to create a TOC by

  • adding a blank page,
  • added the page numbers with their titles
  • highlighted the page numbers in the TOC
  •   right clicked to create a link
  •   went to the corresponding page
  •   clicked enter
  •   the link was created

Now I have an interactive TOC where clicking the page number brings you directly to that page.
