I am trying to edit / change the main email address on the account and change it to an already existing email on the account. when I made the change I get a notice that the email already exists.
The mail email address on the account no longer exists so I need all communication to come to me.

If you see the message "Email already exists," you might have opened an account or created one mistakenly.
That being said, it would take some time to get you to the email address you need to change to.
Let's go step-by-step on how you can do so:
1. Log in using the email address that you want to change to (since it shows that the account exists);
2. [Optional] Click Forgot Password and proceed with the steps to create a new password.
3. Delete the account. Steps available here: https://adobe.ly/3ZkRMqM. This will delete any accidentally created accounts.
4. Wait for a month for the deletion process to solidify and the account to be removed from our database. Info here: https://adobe.ly/459tQdG.
5. Meanwhile, you can create a makeshift email account to keep your Adobe Account safe since you do not have access to the original email.
This might be a lengthy process, but it would ensure that your account is safe and transferred to the email address you want. You can change it from here: https://adobe.ly/4kwo8ax.
Note: While you do all the steps above, make sure you use a different web browser, as logging out from the actual account can cause a loss of it, if you do not have alternate methods to authenticate your account enabled.
