Distiller does not show new joboptions

Hi,

I was asked to create a PDF/X-4 compliant PDF from FrameMaker.

The corresponding joboptions file is in my FrameMaker Roaming folder:

c:\Users\myusername\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\FrameMaker\16\Additional_PDF_Settings\PDFX4.joboptions

In an Adobe video it was said to copy this joboptions file into the Adobe PDF folder:

c:\Users\myusername\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe PDF\Settings\PDFX4.joboptions

However, Distiller does not list this joboptions file.

What do I have to do? I restarted everything, but Distiller does not show the PDF/X4 joboptions.

When I tried to add the joboptions manually in Distiller in Settings | Adobe PDF Settings, then I get an error message:

Adobe PDF Settings file read error in: c:\Users\myusername\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\FrameMaker\16\Additional_PDF_Settings\PDFX4.joboptions

I have administrator privileges. Acrobat and FrameMaker are the latest updates.

Best regards

Winfried

Hi Bernd,

Thank you very much for this suggestion.

That's what I did first. And in the FrameMaker forum they suggested to ask here 😉

FrameMaker does show the new joboptions. Only Distiller does not.

Is the joboptions folder, which I listed above, the correct one?

Best regards

c:\Users\myusername\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\FrameMaker\16\Additional_PDF_Settings\

is not the correct folder.

Hi Bernd,

As said above I had pasted the joboptions file for PDF/X-4 here:

c:\Users\myusername\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe PDF\Settings\PDFX4.joboptions

Is this the correct folder for new joboptions for the Distiller?

Best regards

Distiller cannot make PDF/X-4 files. This is not a limitation of Distiller so much as a limitation of PostScript. You could however, make a PDF/X-3 file, and use Acrobat's preflight to save it as a PDF/X-4 if there is no other choice in this. (It would not be better, but might pass the tests).

Hi,

Thank you very much for this info! Now I know.

Still I think that Distiller should list the joboptions file, even when it will throw an error later.

I managed to create the PDF/X-4 PDF file with FrameMaker's own PDF engine. (In the beginning I had thought that I had to use the PostScript route.) When I checked this with the Acrobat Preflight tool, there were only very few minor issues. As you suggested I saved this as PDF/X-4 again, and then everything seemed to be fine.

Best regards
