Does not happen all the time. Seems to be random. Just wondering if someone can tell me what this error is, it happens on 32 bit and 64 bit versions of Adobe Acrobat pro

Stack:

Can you confirm if this is happening with files that contain JPEG images?

See here:

Based on the technical info provided in the link above, I will assume that the PDFs that you're distilling may contain corrupt JPEGs, OR,  in this case the Huffman coding that is employed during the compression is failing due to a poor quality of the jpeg image for not complying with the minimum of 8×8 pixel blocks... Google is my best friend  🙂

To verify, use one of the failed PDFs for testing.

But most important, share what process or program are you using to convert the raw image to a JPEG.

I would try with a PNG image file just to rule out if it is something else.

This points to a corrupt JPEG. Test your file by deleting a JPEG at a time until the file distills properly to identify which one is causing the issue, then resave that image. As suggested, try save it as a different format, like TIF or PNG.

Thanks for the help so far. We use mostly cgms and pdf images in our manuals. We import tiff, png, or jpeg images to use in PTC IsoDraw, then export to a cgm that is used in our manuals. So to track down which image is going to be impossible. The issue is very sporatic, and it seems that a republish of the same file is succesful.
