Edited pdf document just showing letter 'c'.

Community Beginner ,
Sep 23, 2019 Sep 23, 2019

I was sent a pdf copy of a manuscript who asked me to edit it for content and layout.  Upon completing my changes I saved the document but when I go back into it there are several paragraphs just showing the letter c and nothing else.  Please see attached screen shot of an example.  Any advice to recover the document would be greatly appreciated.  I'm using Adobe Acrobat DC.

Hi Graham,

Thanks for reaching out. As described above, the edited pdf document just showing letter 'c', correct?

Would you mind sharing some more information for a better understanding:

  • Before editing the file, were you able to view the file properly (with all the text visible)?
  • What is the version of the Adobe Acrobat DC installed on your computer? To check the version of the application please go to Help > Click, About Adobe Acrobat DC.
  • Please check for any missing update and try updating the application. Go to Help > Check for updates.
  • Is this a behavior with a particular file or with any PDF file?
  • What is the workflow/steps you are doing to edit the file?
  • Could you please share the sample of the PDF file with us for testing? Please upload the PDF file on document cloud - https://documentcloud.adobe.com/link/home/ and share the link.

We are here to help, just need more information

Regards,

Amal

Hello,

Thanks for providing the details and sharing the PDF file. It makes it much easier to understand the issue you are facing.

Could you please share the original file (before editing) that you got from the sender as we are not able to reproduce the issue on our end

Are you trying to use any font for editing the text that is present in Adobe Acrobat DC or do you have any other font installed in the font folder of the computer and trying to use it for editing?

Regards

Amal

Hi Amal,

Here's the link to the original document that I imported and subsequently edited:
https://documentcloud.adobe.com/link/track?uri=urn%3Aaaid%3Ascds%3AUS%3Ae193935c-a570-4e05-9c16-8baf...

I've also attached the document to this message.

I've been using the Calibri font to edit my copy of the manuscript.  Is there some conflict between this and a font or fonts that have been used in the original document?

Thanks again for your help with this.

Regards

Graham

Hello,

Thanks for sharing the original PDF file, we tried to reproduce the issue at our end and its working fine. We edited multiple pages and text and the issue is not reproducible and er are not able to see the letter 'C'

Please try to recreate the PDF from the Word  application using the Acrobat Ribbon available on the top and then try to edit the file and check. If that is not possible please try to recreate the PDF from Acrobat as follows :

  • Open the original PDF > Go to File > Save As with  a different name on your computer. and try editing the file and check.
  • Please check for the necessary and recommended updates for the computer (Windows/Mac)
  • please update the Adobe Acrobat DC to the latest version 19.12.20040 . Go to help> check for Updates.

Also, please try to edit a different PDF file and check if the issue still persists as it seems to be a file specific issue.

Let us know how it goes

Regards

Amal

Hi Amal, I originally contacted the forum in good faith hoping to receive some support to find a solution to the problems I've been experiencing. Initially I thought you were interested in providing that support but as you haven't responded to my recent enquiry please advise at your earliest convenience if you will be continuing this dialogue or whether I need to contact Adobe Support directly? I look forward to hearing from you.

I couldn't replicate the issue where the text disappears from the PDF, however, I strongly suggest that you follow below steps.

I'm using a Mac. I downloaded your PDF, exported it to MS. Word, made changes, then created a PDF from Word using "Create PDF" settings.

I just encountered this just now while I was trying to justify (align) some texts, and here us what I did to resolve it: select the whole texts in the page you are editing, press control c to copy everything, then control v to paste the texts again. Proceed with your edits, and there won't be any c again.
