Editing PDF once saved the pdf document gets all jumbled.

Hi, 

When I edit a PDF and then save it as a new PDF file once save the PDF jumbles all the wording creating boxes etc where the wording used to be... how do I stop this from happening? 

Running Windows 11 have checked and using the latest Adobe Acrobat DC.

The boxes are called "tofu" and are intended to show, that the character is undefined in the selected font. This may be caused by a damaged font or PDF. You may check the PDF for arrors before editing with the builtin Preflight tool. It may be able to fix it (or not).

In this case, the "tofu" represents characters (or glyphs) that are not available in the current font on your computer.

In order to edit any PDF, you must install the fonts used by the original author on your computer. Fonts are not free and you must have legal licenses to use them.

Solution:

1. In File/Document Properties, click the Fonts tab and view the fonts that were used by the original author.
2. Now look at the fonts folder on your computer (example, Windows / Fonts for Windows 10 and 11) and see if you have the same fonts. You're looking for an exact match; Times, Times Roman, and Times New Roman are 3 different fonts.
3. Locate a legal copy of the missing fonts and install them on your computer.
4. Reboot (to ensure the new fonts are recognized) and view the PDF, hopefully without any tofu.
