Embedded fonts- boldface

New Here ,
May 05, 2023 May 05, 2023

Saving a MS Publisher document as a PDF using File->Export->Create PDF/XPS Document. When I generate the PDF, the fonts used are showing as embedded (see attached picture) but the boldface is not coming through (document attached), though the italics are working.  When I look at the info for Publisher I have unticked 'embed fonts' (see attached picture) per other help article suggestions. Any suggestions for how I can get the bold font to transfer? I have included a screenshot of the correctly formatted fonts as they show in MS Publisher as I'm unable to upload a publisher document to this help forum.

Thank you for your assistance!

My guess is that MS Publisher uses faux bold to simulate the bold type face. It looks to me that it is the font. When I change the font, it comes nicely out as bold.

The font Lora, that you used, is a Google font that comes in 2 flavours. One static and one variable. Not all applications can handle variable fonts correctly. But I do not know if that is the problem.

Incidentally: As you are using Microsoft Publisher to create the PDF file, you should ask in a Microsoft forum. You may also ask in a Google font forum, if there is a known issue with Publisher and the Lora font. There is no Adobe software involved. And in the other viewer I checked the file, the behaviour is the same.

I've rebuilt part of your design in Adobe InDesign with your Lora font, and it works well, when exported to PDF:
