A scanned pdf file needs to be sent with confidential info edited out. Leaving a blank space is OK.

1.) How can sentences be securely erased in a pdf document so the intended reader cannot find the confidential info?

2.) How about securely deleting a page ?

Thank you.

Very funny! Is there really a redaction tool? It does not show up in Help>Search. And the online help shows "Choose View > Toolbars > Redaction. " but its not there either.

Advanced -> Redaction.

I don't know if it is just in Pro or in Standard as well.

This tool is only available in the Professional or Extended versions. There are also a number of 3rd party tools available that have provided this feature.

The result of not redacting sensative infrmation from court or government agency documents released to the public is not always funny.

In Standard 9 Vista - Redaction does not show under Advanced.

In this case using a felt marker tool would be ok - if it securely covered the data in the pdf. ?

Control your work

Use Acrobat 9 to apply passwords, set permissions, and permanently remove sensitive information — so you can feel confident your work is safe.

From http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/solutions/detail/protect_info.html

With Acrobat 9, you can:

  • Help protect sensitive information
  • Safeguard your work so that only you can change the content
  • Specify what others can do with your file, such as copying, printing, commenting, or editing
  • Delete content so that it's permanently removed from the document, not just blacked out

If it was not OCRd, then you can use Save As to get a graphic for each page. Edit the graphic through elimination of the information and recreate the page(s) as PDF files by either printing to the Adobe PDF printer or opening the graphic in Acrobat. You can then use Replace Pages for each page you edited. I do suggest you work on copies so that you do not accidentally mess up the original scan. When you have your PDF as desired, use Save As to get rid of the old stuff.
