Exporting PDF comments to Word

New Here ,
Aug 16, 2023 Aug 16, 2023

Hello, I have someone trying to export comments from a PDF to Word. They currently are using Adobe Pro in the Creative Cloud app. Whenever selecting the Export to Word option in Adobe though they receive a message stating...

"Adobe Acrobat encountered errors during this operation.
It is recommended that you reinstall Adobe Acrobat PDFMakers"

I checked Word and verified that the Acrobat PDFMaker Office COM Addin is there and active. I've also tried re-installing Acrobat Pro in the Creative Cloud app and still get the message.

Back at my own machine with Acrobat Pro and no Creative Cloud, I get the message as well. I've tried looking for videos and only find people showing you how to export to Word from older versions and not encountering issues.

Both versions that I've tested are the most recent 23.003.20269,  08/2023

I found one other post here with the exact same issue. One person posted to check the following link to troubleshoot, https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/troubleshoot-acrobat-pdfmaker-problems-office.html.
I've already gone through those as well with no resolve.

Any information would be appreciated.

Hi @F4rva

Thanks for sharing the details

The first line of the issue description mentions that you have been trying to export comments from PDF to Word. Is that right?

If you have a PDF file full of comments and want to export those comments only. Then it can be done from within Acrobat itself.

The troubleshooting steps mentioned in this article https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/troubleshoot-acrobat-pdfmaker-problems-office.html are related to the Adobe Acrobat PDF maker plugin in MS Office.

Usually used to generate a PDF from Word or MS Office application.

This is not the case here, I believe.

To export comments from a PDF file, try these steps: https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/importing-exporting-comments.html

Once the file is generated, you can export the comment file to word or any other format you want. That can be done using, Acrobat>Export PDF> Export to word.

Let us know if we understood your requirement correctly.

Thanks,
Akanchha

Hello Akanchha, you are correct in the issue Im having. I tried exporting the data file first and then exporting to Word, but I still get the error. I've also already tried the troubleshooting steps mentioned in both links you posted. I've also tried the following...

- Tried multiple users PC's that have Adobe Pro and word 365
- Repaired Adobe Pro
- Uninstalled Pro multiple different ways and reinstalled it

The only thing I've tried that partially worked was installing the 32-bit version of Pro and the Export to Word feature worked. The only issue is the document didn't format quite right in Word. Every section that had a comment also had a sticky note version of the comment over the text in the document. Aside from that our users need the 64-bit version so in the end it's not really a fix unfortunitely.
