Fatal Error when trying to combine DOCX files in Acrobat DC

I am on Windows 10 using Microsoft 365 and Acrobat Standard DC.  I recently upgraded to 365 from Office 2016 and have noticed that when I try to combine DOCX files (usually only 2-3 at a time), Acrobat will process the first file, but then get hung on the 2nd indefinitely.  Eventually, I get a pop-up with Fatal Error Acrobat failed to send DDE command.

The same files work flawlessly on Office 2016.  I can combine PDFs in either version without issue.  Is there some compatibility issue between Microsoft 365 and Acrobat Standard DC.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!
