"Any form fields that have the same name in the merged documents are now merged into one field." I've never gotten this message before, and I now can't combine various files without Adobe changing the file contents, even if I change the file names to different names. Can anyone tell me how to stop this feature from preventing combining files?

I don't know if I could share the files, as I never do that. But, I found the solution to my problem. I have to save the file as a PDF using the Print function, and that seems to clear away the trouble. After I save using Print, I then can combine the files. I got that solution from the Adobe online chat agent.

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/
p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post if it helps you get responses.

We had never come across this error and were stuck until I read your fix, so thank you! Worked perfect to "print" to adobe and then drag into the combined files.

This is because you are trying to merge documents that contain form fields with the same name.
The solution is either to flatten the documents before merging them, or to merge them in a PDF-Portfolio.

Thanks JR, I tried flattening but it did not work. Also, creating a portfolio was not what I needed. The problem was solved instead by using the Print function to save the pdf's, and that converted the documents into a formst that would allow them to be combined. I only had to change the name of the document slightly when saving it using Print.

Printing as PDF is the same thing than flattening form fields and comments (flattening transparencies is another thing).
But it's faster and more productive with Acrobat Pro.
