Footnote cross-references get screwed when converting from word to pdf. How can I fix that?

You need provide at least some useful details on your environment (operating system, Word version, Acrobat version) and the steps you make to create the PDF. Also, a sample file would help to reproduce the problem.

thanks for the note. Microsfot 365, 1.7 (Adobe 8.x).
I have a table with multiple footnotes. I have cross referenced some of the footnotes. Everything .looks fine in word, however, as soon as i convert is to pdf (save as pdf,. export to pdf, print as pdf) the cross linked footnote (which i add by reference-> cross-reference--> reference type: foot note ---> insert footnote number (formatted)) get screwed. The original footnotes remain intact. The issue is only with the cross reference.

I'm sure you know that Acrobat 8 is very out of date. That said, many of us try to recreate these issues in order to find a possible solution. Unfortunately, I doubt there are too many people with Acrobat 8 at hand to try to recreate the problem. Can you share the file so others can try it with their installed versions of the software? If the current Acrobat version yields the same result as you, it could point to a problem with the Word doc itself, not Acrobat.

Understood. You mentioned the different processes you tried. Just to be sure, did you click on your Acrobat Ribbon at the top of Word and use the Create PDF button (assuming that option is available)?

If your Acrobat Pro version was up to date, you would/should have the Acrobat ribbon (plugin) show up at the top of your Word interface, and that ribbon contains (in my opinion) the most accurate and reliable method of converting a Word doc to PDF. It existed w/ Acrobat 8 also, but with Acrobat 8 trying to interface with Microsoft 365 comes this issue, I believe.
Is there a chance of upgrading to the current Acrobat Pro DC? I suspect it would solve your problem (and cost money as well - I get it).

Oh, and if the Acrobat ribbon is available in Word, be sure to visit the Preferences button and hit all the tabs - ensuring that all footnotes, links, etc. are ticked.
