Frequent errors with Acrobat DC Pro

Every time I use Acrobat DC Pro, I get one or more of the following errors:

  • Error loading page
  • Out of memory
  • Taking longer than usual
  • Drawing error

I rarely work with unusually large documents. This occurs regardless of whether I have many PDFs open or just 1 or 2. Typically, I'm working with files that are between 20 and 80 pages, 5K - 16K in size. Once the error occurs, it continues to escalate in frequency until the document becomes unusable and I have to exit and restart Acrobat. I do work with it quite a bit, so it's open most of the day. I mostly use the commenting and measure tools and, less frequently, the edit tools. There are no forms, signatures, or scripts in my documents. I almost never work with portfolios. However, this wasn't a problem until the past 2-3 months. I was hoping the latest update would fix it, but it did not.

I'm working in the current version of Acrobat (2022.001.20085). I'm running Windows 10 Pro, Build 19044.1526. I've tried repairing and resinstalling Acrobat, but to no avail.

Same problem with

  • Taking longer than usual...

I'm running MacOS Monterey up to date versions of Acrobat Pro DC and InDesign (where the pdf was created).

At one point, after making prefernce changes suggested elsewhere, the file did open, but a number of comments were gone. Out of curiosity I opened the pdf on an older machine running an older version of Acrobat and it opened withot a problem, all comments were visible!! I guess newer isn't always better!!

From searching this problem however it seems like it's been around forever, you'd think all of our subscription money could go in to hiring someone to fix old issues!!

I'd like to get an answer to this so I only have to work on one computer at a time!
