Subject: Feedback on File Hover Behavior in Adobe Acrobat
Dear Adobe Team,
I am sharing feedback regarding a recurring usability issue in Adobe Acrobat that impacts workflow efficiency and is a constant source of aggravation.
Currently, when a file is in a hover state (for example, during drag-and-drop or when the mouse is positioned over a file), Acrobat disables the Save and Open options. This behavior often prevents me and other network users who can't see the current state from opening or saving files, even though the file is not actively in use by anyone else.
This restriction feels overly cautious and creates unnecessary friction, especially in collaborative environments or when working with local files. The hover state typically does not indicate an actual lock, so blocking these actions seems counterintuitive and is not used in your other programs.
Why this matters:
Suggested Improvements:
Adobe Acrobat is a powerful tool, and addressing this small but impactful issue would greatly improve user experience.
Thank you for considering this feedback. Please let me know if additional details would help.

Hi johngSpeedy1,
Thank you for reaching out and sharing the feedback.
As mentioned above, the Save and open actions are disabled. Could you please share a small video showing the steps you do and how the option shows as disabled. It will help us to understand the workflow and we can get this checked.
Please also share the current Acrobat and OS version number in use.
We will look into this and share the correct information.
Thanks,
Meenakshi

Hello Meenakshi, and thank you for responding.
I'm using V25.1 on Win11 v25H2. I also discovered the options were not saving in General Preferences after being unchecked due to the app loading in a compatibility mode to an earlier version of Windows. Fixing this solved the check marks from being reverted to active.
However, it still doesn't resolve the issue when the app forces the user to choose:
"The document could not be saved. The file may be read-only, or another user may have it open. Please save the document with a different name or in a different folder."
This stops workflow when making edits to a file and forces you to move your mouse selection away from the file you just opened. Other Adobe appps I use do not behave this way, nor do most other apps in the Windows environment. Many users will create a new file name then have to go manage files additional files and only to have it happen again.
Im ny opinion, shared by oodles, whatever the program is protecting the user from, it's not worth the aggravation. Users are more sophiscated today, and this is not a feature but rather a bug.
Thanks,
John
