Hand Tool by default when opening a file

Community Beginner ,
Jun 17, 2022 Jun 17, 2022

Hi there! I used to have the hand tool by default (kinda) when opening a new file. Since i had to reinstall adobe as my pc was changed, it is now set on the cursor which is to select text and images. How can i do to have the hand tool automatically at opening?

Thanks!

Hi @David26342959onfu

Sorry for the inconvenience caused. We are showing Select Tool as default, To change it to hand tool we can easily do it just by selecting Hand tool, and to get Hand tool selected always you can select Touch Mode Always under Preferences --> General.

Please let me know if this is not the issue to fix it asap.

Hi there

Hope you are doing well and sorry for the trouble. Please try the steps below and see if that works for you:

  • Go to Edit (Win), Adobe Acrobat (Mac) Preferences> Acessibility.
  • Uncheck "Always display the keyboard selection.
  • Then select the Hand Tool.
  • Close the program.
  • The Hand tool will now be the default

Let us know how it goes.

Your suggestion does not work because that box is not checked in my settings.

Sir, I have that version. It doesn't work. First, that box is not checked. Second, if I check it and uncheck it, click Ok, choose the Hand Tool, and close the program, upon reopening, the Select Text and Images is still the default.

Why not simply allow us to pick which tool we want as the default? In any event, the above solution doesn't work for me.

I am using Adobe Acrobt Pro (32-bit), and I do not have a "Touch Mode Always" setting in Preferences --> General.  Please advise.  This is a frustrating issue.

Hi there

What is the version of the OS and the Acrobat DC you are using? To check the version go to Help > About Acrobat and make sure you have the recent version 24.02.20857 installed. Go to Help > Check for updates and reboot the computer once.

Also try to repair the installation from the help menu (Win Only) and see if that works.

If it still doesn't work, please remove the application using the Acrobat cleaner tool https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/Labs/cleaner.html, reboot the computer and reinstall the application using the direct link https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/acrobat-dc-downloads.html

I don't have DC.  I have Adobe Acrobat Pro (32-bit).  it is 759 rather than 857.  This is on a corporate machine.

It's an old bug that recurs regularly, see this topic for the workaround: https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-discussions/making-hand-tool-the-default-choice/m-p/9940673
